Default Ace high facing river bet, late in tourny

I dont understand what hand plays this line like this. If he had Jx wouldnt he check raise flop? If he has a 9, would he lead turn, or bet less on river?

lets put it this way: It's more likely a slow played monster than a hand you can beat.
If you think he really has "almost" nothing, you might want to think about pushing all-in instead since you really cant beat anything (not that I would advise it, he obv has you beat)

what monster? JJ reraises pf, 9x leads flp or check raises. Maybe 44. The 6 on the river does nothing.

Villain could turn up with a lot of hands here given he was getting nearly to 3 to 1 to call pre-flop. J, 9, pair, QT. On flop he either has a piece or thinks you missed or both. Checks turn to see if you'll keep going at it and then bets river when you don't. I think you are beat here most of the time so no need to call the 12k on the end.

I never said "he has a monster", I just said that a monster is *more likely* than a hand you can beat.

9x doesn't always lead flop or check raise, ditto Jx.

Obv the only air he can feasibly have is T8/QT maybe KQ... but your hand looks a lot like AK/AQ/KQ etc so he might be inclined to check a J maybe even a 9 to let you bluff at it...

Either way he played it good, I think I fold still tho unless I had some reads on villian.

It looks like he has 44/9x or air tho right?

Doesn't J9 play into the villians hand well, I mean if he flops top 2 pair a call of your continuation bet seems appropriate. Then a check on the 9 river giving him a boat seems like a typical play. With 14900 in the pot at the river his bet of 12k doesn't seem out of the box for a boat.
I think he has you beat all over. I do agree with other poster saying that if you do feel that you have him beat you should push, but would def. not advise that.

Without a read, I'm folding this. The villain's line is typical of someone who's slowplaying. He's hoping you bet again on the turn, so he can pop you there. Instead, he's betting the river, because it's his only chance to win additional chips.

If villian is known to us to be aggressive then I think ya it's a call, esp as he's likely to play a set strong (?) - you had obv played with him / knew table dynamics etc so very good call.

I like wp nh...
