Ok im fairly new to Omaha Hi, love the game.
Start out with 5c 10s Qc Ad in the sb, 1 player limps in mp and i call, big blind checks. Flop comes Jc Kd Ac giving me the nut broadway with the second nut flush draw. We all check. Turn is the 2 of spades. At this point I'm afraid club on river will either kill me or my action if someone else has nuts or set so I need to bet here. Turn (board: Jc Kd Ac 2s): donk2death bets $.75. Smeagol7 folds. imtheduke raises to $2. donk2death re-raises to $6.75. imtheduke re-raises to $21. donk2death goes all-in for $37.29. imtheduke calls. At this point, I'm sure hes got the nuts as well, and I am BEGGING for a club on the river. Sure enough... River (board: Jc Kd Ac 2s 7c): (no action in this round) Showdown: donk2death shows 5c Ts Qc Ad. donk2death has 5c Qc Jc Ac 7c: flush, ace high. imtheduke shows Qd Tc Kc As. imtheduke has Tc Kc Jc Ac 7c: flush, ace/king high. wow, when I saw the club on the river, I couldn't understand why all the chips went to him... I guess this is just an example of why you don't play garbage hands, but once I seen that flop, there's no way I'm not losing all my money, right? |

LOL bet the flop. Seriously what are you trying to accomplish by 'slowplaying' your straight? Otherwise you played the hand fine.

[/ QUOTE ] Normally I wouldn't have checked that, but with a made hand with a very strong draw, I wanted to encourage action. Still an ugly play I guess, as a set or nut flush draw is probably calling my bet on flop, so it just is a chance to increase the pot. In retrospect, now that I think about it, that WAS a terrible check, thanks for pointing that out. |

The only action you can get is when you let a better flush draw or a set/two pair to draw out on you. Any time you flop the nuts with a redraw you should be looking to get money in the pot as early as possible because you will often be raised by someone that is drawing dead to a split which is just about the best situation you can get in.

You learned why free cards are death in Omaha. Straights can get jack-hammered by so many hands, you should almost never slow play them.
About the only hand I slow play is if I have pocket Ks or As and flop top boat. Seriously. |

if i flop nut straight with almost any flush or boat redraw im very willing to put the chips in.
its very likely your villain is splitting at best. if your flush redraw ends up not being the best redraw, then owell. its worth it to jam here. i compare it to set over set in holdem. nothing you can do but b1tch and reload. |

This hand doesn't necessarily illustrate my point of giving free cards in Omaha (because the turn wasn't what hurt OP).
In this situation, even if OP jams the pot on the flop, he's still obviously getting called by his opponent who flopped the nuts and is essentially free-rolling with the nut flush re-draw. OP were destined to go broke on this hand. That being said, I still think its -EV to slow play a nut straight on the flop, even with a (non-nut) flush re-draw. If people want to call me down with their draws, they're are going to have to pay in hopes of pairing the board or putting their third suit out there. |
