Re: Ethics: You find a wallet, how much $ in it to make you just take
Take the cash out of it and return the actual wallet to lost and found. Not bad karma not good karma neutral karma.

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I'm curious to see if people would vote differently depending on where they find the wallet If you found a wallet at a raunchy strip club with a wad of 20's in it, do you take it? What if you find a wallet under a pew at church? Return it? Does it matter? Do you form an opinion of the person before deciding? [/ QUOTE ] The only time I would ever consider not returning the wallet would be if I knew for a fact that the person who lost the wallet was an ass hole. If that was the case, I would probably throw out the wallet and give the cash to a homeless person or charity or something. Cuz no matter how much of an [censored] the guy is, it's not worth getting hit by the karma bus. [/ QUOTE ] this doesnt make sense to me. why should the fact that the guy is an [censored] matter at all? [/ QUOTE ] Well, I don't know if I'd actually not give it back, but that would be the only case where I'd consider not giving it back. Otherwise, there's no question that I would. |

Re: Ethics: You find a wallet, how much $ in it to make you just take
I thought that at first, but being in an airport, he can't get through security without an ID, or rent a car to leave.
I figured he would prolly need it asap, and security was the best way for that to happen. The guy didn't come running into the bathroom in the 10 minutes I was in there, and at the time I thought I didn't have time to wait around (still in the airport 5.5 hours later) |

Re: Ethics: You find a wallet, how much $ in it to make you just take
anyone who has returned a lost wallet to someone knows how satisfying it is to see how happy they are when they get it back. it is a great example of a good deed being its own reward, and you feel good on the inside even though u have missed out on a possibly quite large payday.
although i must say, if i did happen to have a look in there and see 100k i might have an ethical dilemma. thats a lot of money! |

[/ QUOTE ] Exactly! I saw it and my first thought was "damn, how much of a pain is it gonna be to get this to security..." I didn't even think about taking it. then when I picked it up as I was leaving the thought to look inside came to me, and like I said, I did not look because I wasn't sure that I'm honest enough to return it if I saw a huge chunk of cash inside... I like my new policy of not even looking. I may have to stick to that in the future. as for $, I don't know if I can say a number that would make me take it. I am not hurting for money, so less than 10K is an easy no. but like 20K...50k... I might turn thief for a large sum, which saddens me, because it's basically putting a dollar figure on my morals. what's "right" at $5 should be "right" at $100K, but I don't know if I could pass on 100K to "do the right thing"... |

Re: Ethics: You find a wallet, how much $ in it to make you just take
If there is some sick amount of money in the waller (ie. 100k) then I will probably take a small sum like 5k and return the rest. I would give the wallet and all other contents back regardless. If it is under $1000 I'd just return it with whats in it.

Re: Ethics: You find a wallet, how much $ in it to make you just take it?
I return the wallet, regardless of the contents, unless the wallet belongs to Anne Coulter, or someone like that.
Anyone who says they would keep the money, who isn't hopelessly broke, just sucks as a human beings. They probably suck either way actually. |

Re: Ethics: You find a wallet, how much $ in it to make you just take
wouldnt matter how much was in it, Id return it.
Id also never hand it over to a security guard or anyone else, Id find the owner myself, since id just assume whoever I gave it to would keep it, or at least that the possibility of them keeping it is way higher than the possibility of me keeping it (which is zero) is, and since I kinda feel an obligation to get the owner back his wallet simply because im the one who found it(yeah I know thats weird), then Im doing a crappy job of it if I put it in more risk than if I find him myself. |

What if you just found a wad of cash. I remember hearing (on Poker After Dark IIRC) that Doyle Brunson lost 50k in the men's room of a casino.
Just cash sitting there. No contact info. Does this change things? |

Re: Ethics: You find a wallet, how much $ in it to make you just take
Last time I found a wallet, it was ust outside the door of a car visiting my school. I hasd just finished ordering pizza, so I took 12 for hte pizza, saw whose it was, and figured out who they were visiting and called them and told them where it was. I figured it was an wequal trade.
Ill return everything normally, cash usually. |
