Put \'em on a range
Standard stuff
I have been playing tourneys for a while and noticed (slow learner) that I have some holes in my game because I don't play well deep stacked. So here I am, learning how to play poker as opposed to the short game that tourneys all become. If I learn well, then I'll be hooked on cash or go back to tourneys with a stronger game. One thing I have noticed is that very few here put people on ranges and act accordingly. "looks like a flush" ... "usually a set" are comments I see a lot. Maybe I'm overthinking this level, or not aware that the range thing is implied in the posts ... quite possible ... Anyways, I found this thread, there are others .... Does everyone here put people on a range of hands? Am I just missing it? Hand Ranges |

Re: Put \'em on a range
Its a good idea to put people on a range of hands. Your ability to move up will be capped without this important tool.
What was your question? |

Re: Put \'em on a range
I always try to put my opponent on a range of hands and act accordingly. However, cash games are much more of a postflop game than tournaments and as such, you get more information with each street. So, by the time the river rolls around, you can much more accurately put your opponent on a specific hand when you're risking your stack as compared to tournaments when the money is usually/often all-in preflop or on the flop.

Re: Put \'em on a range
Putting people on ranges is the difference between an ok player and a good one imo

Re: Put \'em on a range
No question ... I had seen a lot of "feels like a flush" and "looks like a set" responses
I just find that kind of thing counterproductive. Makes it easy to find "monsters under the bed". Much smarter to put someone on a range, pokerstove if necessary and then proceed. So a thread that discusses ranges made sense to me. obv. ignore or review if you already do this. |

Re: Put \'em on a range
Here's a recent thread about putting an opponent on a range throughout the play of a hand. Its a tricky one because villain's range is so big.
Mingdu, I would strongly suggest picking a hand that threw you for a loop, one with play on multiple streets, and posting it in this thread and asking people to put villain on a hand range on each street. No better way to learn yourself than seeing how others' do it. |
