Re: Anyone else like this play? or am I seeing this wrong
I'd get it in here, shorty has to beat both of you to keep going. I'd just take 3rd and run. I don't see why it's barf, Slim can you explain?

[/ QUOTE ] Let's make the hand look like this for simplicity. blinds/antes: 200/400/25 UTG (t3455) Button (t945) SB (t7585) Hero (t1515) Preflop: Hero is BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG folds, Button raises to t920, SB raises to t1515, Hero ??? Folding gives two possible outcomes. SB wins:(3430,0,8980,1090) -- (0.3289,0,0.4281,0.2430 Button wins: (3430,2340,8035,1090) -- (0.2812,0.2281,0.3701,0.1197) Make SB a 60/40 favorite and you get: 0.60*0.2430+0.40*0.1197=0.1937 for folding Calling give four possible outcomes. SB wins everything:(3430,0,10070,0*) -- (0.3508,0,0.4492,0.2000) You win everything:(3430,0,6070,4000) -- (0.3077,0,0.3691,0.3232) Button wins main, you win side: (3430,2860,6070,1140) -- (0.2760,0.2503,0.3556,0.1180) Button wins main, SB gets side: (3430,2860,7210,0) -- (0.3122,0.2951,0.3928,0) With you at 30% to scoop as well as SB at 30% to win the main, and you as a 55/45 underdog in in the side pot, I get: 0.40*0.2 + 0.30*0.3232 + 0.30*(0.45*0.1180+0.55*0) = 0.1929 for calling If SB is really an idiot (EDIT: or good) and A9s stacks up better against his range, I can see how this swings in favor of a call. I just think most players at that buy-in don't understand why it's really profitable to isolate there with even marginal hands. If he's isolating with a lot, then by all means play the proper counter-strategy for that, which is probably a call. |

Re: Anyone else like this play? or am I seeing this wrong
Nice hand. Worst case scenario you have like 33% equity and the big stack doesn't figure to be a 3:2 favorite if you fold. He is probably dog and you probably have > 35% equity if you call. This is a really clear call.

SB might be playing a wide range if he's either really good or really bad, but I'm guessing he's more in the middle where he's just looking at his two cards and they look pretty. |
