Default Player of the Year Competition

Hope I'm in the right place. If not, just direct me.

I play with a group of about 60 people from all around New York. We play all kinds of tournaments. Holdem, Omaha, Stud. Some MTT and STT. We even organized a heads-up tourney for 16 players once.

We want to have a Player of the Year ranking. Has anoyone done this and would you like to share your system? I looked at the WSOP, CardPlayer and others. They usually reward tournaments for more than 300 players. That wouldn't do well for us. Also, they do not reward for STTs. Here's what we came up with:

1st – 40 points
2nd - 25 points
3rd - 10 points
4th - 4 points
5th - 3 points
6th - 2 points
7th - 1 point
8th - 1 point, etc.

Number of Players:
1-9 entries = 1 point
10-beyond = 2 points

multiply the two and you get your points, no matter if it's MTT or STT. Some people say that's unfair since it's harder to finish 6th in a MTT than a 10-person STT. others disagree.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

franco

Maybe try the Pokerstars TLB system?

The formula used to determine the total points awarded to a player (in the top 15% finishers) for any given tournament is:

Points = 10 * [sqrt(n)/sqrt(k)] * [1+log(b+0.25)]

Where:

n is the number of entrants
k is the place of finish (k=1 for the first-place finisher, and so on)
b is the buy-in amount in dollars

Well, you can just punch in the number of players and manually calculate these scores. You can even set up an Excel spreadsheet to do the math for you. This formula can be applied for STTs.

We have the same kind of poy competition as well in my area. Our point system is 1st 32 2nd 27 3rd 22 4th 17 and then 1 point less for every spot there after, therefore rewarding the top finishers. We have done it for the past 2 years and i have been the pts leader both years, last year i avg 16.8 for each tourney and this year i am avg. 18.
