Still wondering about the term "down" if anyone can help me.

Zerocarb yea it may be tuff to get in, but honestly even if i was just temp every now and again it wouldn't bother me much. I'm just looking for things i enjoy to take up some more time.

A "down" is a shift. I think poker dealers work in 30 minute shifts on 2 to 4 tables before going on break. Table game dealers usually work for an hour and then take a 20 minute break.

If you want to deal while you're looking for a job in AC search around for private companies that do "Casino Night" parties. I've been doing that for the last few months until I can get back into a Casino.

Does anyone know how the job market is in Vegas? I've been contemplating moving out there for some time now. Trying to get as much experience out here as I can.

I was talking to Jessica at Caesar's LV and it took her 8 months to get into a major room from the time she moved to LV. She was able to start downtown right away and then a locals casino before getting in it at Caesar's. She is super cute tho so YMMV. I don't think she had any experience before moving to Vegas.

I am actually glad to see this post because I planned on going to school when i came back from aruba in the first week of august, i had talked to a few people at borgata and they told me my only hope was to get in thru an audition in december during the winter open. About two months ago i met the graveyard manager of caesars LV timmy while he was here on the east coast for some personal stuff. I plan on taking a trip out soon and trying to see if i can land a job out there. I dont have any casino experience, but i have been a dealer in underground games here for almost 5 years now, so i know all of the rules, techniques, etc etc which should help me.
