Short Stack Structure

I'm now regularly playing a $2-$5 blind NL game where the buy-in is $100. Not up to $100, not more than $100 but $100. You can top up at any time during play. So first hand of the day there are only $100 stacks (20 BBs). Later there are usually a few large stacks and several <$100 stacks.

I haven't seen anything in my library about such a ring game structure. I'm winging it here but my guess is that tight is correct pre-flop. Also pushing on the button and in the blinds after a couple limpers is likely correct.

Could anyone direct me to previous threads on such a topic? Thanks for any ideas.

Some general points I find useful when playing short on tournaments:

Stack sizes of 20bb are very good for 3-betting all in.

Position is less important as there will be less post flop play.

Stealing the blinds and stealing weak limps become more important as they are a higher % of your stack.

yeah, you could really crush it if you become good at assigning ranges to people's raises and 3-betting all in accordingly.

steal blinds from tight players etc.

If you want practice of a sort, try the Full Tilt "Cap NL" tables. They only allow you to put 30 BB into play each hand, regarldess of stack size. Playing short in a normal game won't be the same, since deeper stacks for other players change the table dynamics.

As the others have said, steal limps and blinds as much as possible. 3bet all in with quality hands, but expect to get called a lot (so no 3betting garbage).

Don't ever flat call raise with low pairs for set value, as you just don't have the odds. Suited connectors and low suited Aces can hit the muck too in raised pots.

You're basically playing 2 street poker, as you'll be allin preflop or on the flop in most hands.
