Set Mining
Is the definition of this playing pocket pairs for set value only all the time?

Re: Set Mining
It's descriptive of a style of play where you play very tight and nitty and attempt to make profits from doubling up on looser players when you flop a big hand. Sets being the most common big hand to flop.

Re: Set Mining
Well it really depends. In NL... you have huge implied odds and should always limp in with them. In Limit, sometimes its better to raise... isolating people with AJ, AQ, KQ ... etc, and keep raising it if you know the flop didn't help them (plus they have no clue what you have).
It really all depends..... if your a NL player, limping in with them often works. |

First, it's much easier to stack your opponent if the pot has been raised. Also, it makes it more difficult for your opponents to determine whether you've got a big pair. I wouldn't re-raise, however, except as a means of mixing up my play. |

Re: Set Mining
I raise too occasionally, but ultimately it depends on who's in the pot already. If a shortstack has limped in I don't want to raise where I can't get 8x the bet if I hit my set. If villain is a deepstack I definitely raise more often.
