I don't understand how the horn even gets under the skin there, that's probably the spot on the body with the least amount of flesh over the bone. Ughhhhhhhhh.

Wouldn't it be more likely for the horn to penetrate and get under the skin like that in a fleshy area like the calf rather than a spot where it's like 2mm of skin and then solid bone? I mean, I dunno, you're the physics major, you tell me.

i would think that if there was flesh, the horn would sink into said flesh and it wouldn't give that horn under skin look.. but if there was no flesh, the horn would either penetrate the bone, thus breaking it, or failing that it would slide on the surface of the bone under the skin.
