Normally you see such a play at <$10MTTs [/ QUOTE ] For the uninformed, what is a reasonable calling range in that spot? [/ QUOTE ] JJ+ AKs [/ QUOTE ] Well I think you can fit AKo in there as well. To be fair, he was getting kinda short, but KQs is just absurd. [/ QUOTE ] He had just under 2 million, what were the blinds, was the BB like 120K? If so I really HATE his call, it's horrible. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] ZOMG Farry what a morean. [/ QUOTE ] QFT, but shouldn't it be moran? "morean" almost lends it a sophisticated air, which doesn't seem appropriate for someone who plays this poorly. [/ QUOTE ] Nah, it's "more" than a "moran". Get it? The flop is {10c}{3d}{6c} and Kalmar checks. Tran bets 500,000 and Kalmar calls. The turn is {9s}. Kalmar checks. Tran bets 1,300,000 and Kalmar calls. The river is {2c}. Kalmar is all in. Tran thinks for a very long time and Kalmar finally calls the clock. With four seconds to go, Tran calls and Kalmar shows {Ac}{8c} for the rivered flush. Kenny Tran is out. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Has anyone else noticed that with 3 tables left we still have 3 Vietnamese players. On average, Viets are the greatest poker players in the world. [/ QUOTE ] Excellent sample size. What do you have to say about other ethnic/racial groups? [/ QUOTE ] How long and how closely do you follow poker ? I don't claim to have performed a rigorous statistical study, but it's clear to me that expressed as a ratio of great players to world population of the race/ethnicity, Viets are by far the best. It's not even close. All my Vietnamese friends who follow poker agree with me. Yes, they might be biased a bit, but they follow poker closely (precisely because of all the great Viet players) and in general they know their stuff. What race/ethnicity do you think rivals Viets for producing great poker players. I'm interested to hear your opinion. [/ QUOTE ] The problem is you know jackshit about how statistics work [/ QUOTE ] Of the top 25 poker players in lifetime earnings, 4 are Vietnamese. Of the top 50 players, 6 are Vietnamese. 7 if 'Tony' Ma is Vietnamese. That's 12 or 14%. All South Vietnamese also. Less than 1% of the world population is Vietnamese. So what are the chances? These players all were just lucky. |
