Trop poker room in AC - decreasing in size
I apologize if this has been posted, but I didn't find anything in the search.
This weekend was my first trip to the Trop in a while, and I was surprised to hear that they are reducing the size of the poker room. Overall the entire room will be reduced by 10 tables, which I believe will be mostly the smaller stud tables. They will still spread some Stud games, but they will be played on hold em tables. The entire no limit room (which used to be called the "high limit" room) located behind the desk will be closed. This is supposedly happening soon, possibly even this week. Seems like some dealers will be let go also. One regular in the pink game was also upset because he heard they were removing the simulcast area out of the poker room....but that wasn't definite yet. If this has been mentioned, feel free to delete this post. |

The simulcast area was such a waste of space anyway...the high limit room was always crammed, and the tables near the simulcast were almost never used except occasionally for tournaments. |

Sorry I couldn't stop starring at OP's avatar.
Anyway. Is there a reason they are reducing the tables other that to save $$$? Do you think they will get the same volume of people and there will just be longer waits, or will people take their business elsewhere? |

This is true but its actually a good thing for the trop. They are taking out the simulcast area out of the poker room, although I have not heard where they are moving it to. The "high limit" room is going to be closed and yes they will be removing some of the smaller stud tables. From what i heard along the back of the bigger room, they will be knocking down the wall and removing some of those slots. They will be getting auto shufflers put into all of the tables, Im not sure about getting rid of any dealers though because they never use all of the tables anyway, so i dont see why they would be downsizing.

Anecdotal, I know, but I was there recently and noticed that it wasn't as busy as it used to be. Guess I was right.

They don't use the back tables except when there is a tournament anyway, so I guess it's not that big a deal. I do hope it doesn't lead to few live games being spread during a tournament though.

This move does not surprise me, although I have heard for the past year that they planned on explanding this room. Poker does not have the buzz that it once had.
It upset me when the Trop's management replaced the lounge behind the high limit room with additional slot machines. I used to enjoy watching the working girls move in on their prey. |

The question now is what will replace the high limit room. I've heard everything from more slots to a gift shop.

Might have something to do with the anti-smoking law. They now have more space of which they can allocate 25% to smoking slots or other lucrative games. I believe they have to wall off the smoking areas by a certain date. Revenues have been down 5 of the last 6 months compared to last year.
