We saw this effect last year, people with VERY deep stacks relative to the blinds (30 BB +) getting all in preflop with marginal type hands (AJo, 66, etc.) [/ QUOTE ] 30 BB's is not even close to deep, much less 'very deep'. |

[/ QUOTE ] It's not deep. But, it's deep enough so that you can just call the standard 3xBB pre-flop raise with some marginal hands rather than pushing all-in with them. |

Jeff Bryan Eliminated in 27th Place ($333,490)
At the Featured Table, Jeff Bryan limps from the cutoff for 80,000, Philip Hilm raises from the button to 320,000, Bryan thinks for a bit before he moves all in for 1,375,000, and Hilm quickly calls with {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. Hilm shows {J-Hearts}{10-Spades}, and he'll need to improve to stay alive. The flop comes {Q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and Hilm retains the lead with ace high. The turn card is -- the {10-Clubs}! Bryan takes the lead with a pair of tens. Hilm needs an ace or a king for a higher pair, or a jack for an ace-high straight. The river card is -- the {J-Clubs}! Philip Hilm rivers an ace-high straight to win the pot. Jeff Bryan is eliminated in 27th place, earning $333,490. |

Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kenny Tran Wins a 2.21 Million Pot Against Tuan Lam At the Featured Table, Tuan Lam raises under the gun to 250,000, and Kenny Tran calls from the big blind. The flop comes {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, and both players check. The turn card is the {J-Spades}, Tran bets 300,000, and Lam calls. The river card is the {6-Spades}, Tran checks, Lam bets 500,000, and Tran calls. Lam shows {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for queen high, and Tran shows {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a pair of jacks. Kenny Tran wins the pot worth 2.21 million in chips. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow Lam misplayed that hand completely [/ QUOTE ] Can we say results oriented???? you mean he didnt raise then get reraised and have to fold his flush draw? Kenny took a stab with nothing got called and was probably done, but got lucky and hit a two outer to pull ahead and Tuan wanted to keep the pot small in case Kenny flopped huge....Looks standard from here. |

This could be the first ME in history where every person busts on a limp reraise.

[ QUOTE ] We saw this effect last year, people with VERY deep stacks relative to the blinds (30 BB +) getting all in preflop with marginal type hands (AJo, 66, etc.) My attempts at explaining this: 1. Alot of these players have most of their tournament experience on the internet and thus are very used to shoving all in preflop towards the later stages, where the blinds are typically high compared to the stakes. Thus this is really the only way they know "how" to play this stage. 2. They may be not paying enough attention to the blind size but rather the stack sizes of the bigger stacks. If you have 1 mil in chips and there are stacks of 7 mil around you, you may feel shortstacked, regardless of what the blinds are, thus they feel the need for their shortstack game. 3. Alot of them are just idiots? [/ QUOTE ] I vote for #3. [/ QUOTE ] On the internet, it is always easy to see the relationship between stack sizes and blinds. With the Harrahs orange chip debacle, coupled with the live pressure of the ME, this stack versus blind relationship is not only confusing but can apparently lead to poor bet sizing. |

If 3 is correct, tourneys are mostly just luck. [/ QUOTE ] 3 is correct. That's not to say good/great players don't have a positive ROI; but in any given tournament luck is a greater determining factor than skill. |

Make no mistake about Bill Edler-- he's a poker tournament machine. With 27 players left, he has 4.8 million chips and is in position to perhaps go all the way. [/ QUOTE ] Omfg show some confidence pokernews people! |
