Default THE MATRIX: the Monthly Movie Marathon: SCIFI

Discuss here.

The Matrix was a real phenomenon when it came out, with people discussing the 'bullet-time' and suchlike. In addition, it was the forefront of a wave of dvd becoming more popular, and was held up as a high-bar for dvd interactivity and extra features, which compounded it as a major film in the popular psyche.

And it's helps that it's not a bad film at all, though dragged down a bit by the silly plotting that occurred in the 2 sequels.

It's a well-constructed film, looks good, is exciting and innovative, and it's sort of mindboggling the same people who made this terrific and intelligent movie fubared it so grandly in the sequels.

OVerall, great piece of sci-fi that deserves a place near the top of the the list for great sci-fi movies.

I didn't see it when it was first released, but I was intrigued by all the talk about the religious overtones; Neo is Jesus and such. Over time that talk kind of faded out.

Oh yeah. I'll take the blue pill, thanks. I like dreams just fine.

The technology holds up well; the special effects still look special even if they are now really common. However, the storyline just doesn't interest me when I re-watch it and I end up not paying much attention to it except for the kung-fu scene and the rescue Morphius sequence. I can't say if it is how tired the other two movies made me of "The One" pyschobabble or that I don't need all the exposition this time around.

I watched this once a long time ago when it first hit cable. I hated it. I don't remember much about it except for some cool slomo bullet dodging. But I remember not liking it a bit and having no interest in ever seeing it again or watching any of it's sequels which were still in the future at the time of my viewing.

I was mesmerized by numerous parts of it, and grooved mightily on the anti-establishment, deconstructionist jive.

Then the sequels made me very, very sad.

Then one of the directors became a transexual.

Life gets more confusing by the day.

Funny you mention that. I never saw the movie in theaters (thought it looked dumb), but when I heard all the praise it got, I decided I should give it a look. Unfortunately, it was out of theaters before I decided this, so I actually waited until I got a DVD player to watch it because I didn't want to spoil the great special effects.
