[ QUOTE ]

A lot of players get overly aggressive with the middle pairs: 8s, 9s, and 10s. They raise before the flop with them, but if the blinds fold, they're only going to win a small pot. I'd much rather try to win a big pot by flopping a set. If the flop comes J-8-2 and I have pocket 8s while my opponent has a hand like K-J, I'm going to win a big pot a lot of the time.

Playing 88 99 and TT for set value? This is gold! I love the bit about winning "a big pot a lot of the time" in a limped pot with a set against top pair KJ.

My policy is to never limp in a 6 max game unless Im in the small blind, and it works well.

When I see someone limp in a 6 max game I immediately think they are a fish

I think it's more of a case that fish open limp rather than open limping makes you a fish.

Very true, but I would have to say a majority of the players who limp in these midstakes 6 max games are the players I try to have sitting on my right
