Daniel Alaei just dropped 450K to 800K. Gus down to 650K and is in shove mode.

Dynasty,

"Scotty winning won't have any impact on the popularity of poker."

"Here's a critical reason why they won't chop.

Harrah's will require that the tournament be played out to the end. Whoever actually wins the tournament and receives the bracelet will also get a W2-G tax form for $8,500,000. That person will be liable for nearly $3,000,000 in taxes to the U.S. federal government."

Two pronouncements, the first of which is probably wrong, and the second of which is definitely wrong.

...and even if there was, there is no way with ESPN cameras rolling the guy winning would owe 3M in taxes.

Harrahs would actually pay the winner the whole $8,500,000. It would then be up to him to redistribute the money to everyone else.

Harrahs doesn't facilitate deals. They will give him a W-2G for the whole amount.

Re : Tobey Maguire

I'm pretty sure I've seen him on a nightly talk show before talk about how much he plays poker.

I have personal experience with Harrahs in this matter. I recently chopped a tournament three-ways. I got $25,000 of the $32,000 first place prize and got a W-2G for $32,000.

The stuff in this thread about it being bad for his career is downright laughable. Have you ppl never heard "There is no such thing as bad press?" Do you remember Hugh Grant?
