very oversimplified thinking.

you are getting 9-1. this is an easy call in the BB for 1 bet (i would fold for 2 more). and when you hit a Q that doesnt mean you lost. it doesnt mean you're always taking it to showdown, either. you could be dominated - but you gotta play postflop and find out.

i've said this before and i'll say it again. hold em is mostly a postflop game. preflop is important, but when you get proper odds and know what you're doing postflop, that's where the money is made and lost.
