It means that x% of the time (my eg 20%) you bust in the first hour and don't get to take the add-on and play the trny. If you delay the rebuy til you bust or til later in the period, this increases the number of times you get to play on. Think of it this way: the rebuy period is a satellite to the main trny (which has a very nice overlay) that decides how many chips you start with.

[/ QUOTE ]

This only kicks in if you go all-in against a player with more chips than you. In theory, if you're a winning player, you will usually have had an equity advantage. This means that you usually would have won far more chips if you had already re-bought.

By giving up a chance at these extra large pots you are sacrificing a lot of EV (at least if you're a winning player). I don't think you can compensate for this by getting a few more addons.

Also, I don't see how being "able to play more tournies" is an issue at all. If you're a winning player, and you're properly bankrolled you'll always have enough money to enter all the tourneys you could possible play simultaneously.

OK some arithmetic:

Assumptions

1. Skill = ROI 100%
2. Dead Money = 25% overlay
3. 100r trny
4. After 1st hr of rebuy, cEV=$EV
5. +1+1 trny
6. Av chips after 1st hr incl add-ons = 8k

Expected outcome for intial rebuy strategy is:

a. 5% trnys bust in first hr so you don't get to play the main event.
b. Overlay means yr ROI increases to 125%
c. ROI is further enhanced because on average you start with more than average chips. x% more.

$EV=300*.95*1.25*1.x

Delayed Rebuy

a. zero busts
b. ROI decreased because on average you start with fewer chips than with strategy a. Decrease is z%.
c. Buy-in decreased because sometimes you double up without rebuying. Decrease is y%.

$EV=300*1.y*1.25*(1-z)

Evaluate the two expressions with yr own stats and you get the answer to whether to rebuy initially or later. In short the more skillful you are, the less advantage you get from an intial rebuy, the less skilful, the more adviseable it is to rebuy early.

And I'm concentrating on the skilful bit in the 1am 109, so correct me if I've cocked up.
