Some older guy makes it $40 from middle position. I get A2 on the button and make it $120. sb calls(he's only been at the table for a little bit, and the only hand he's played, he ended up pushing and wasn't called. He's deep with about $4k. I have like $2k.) old guy folds. HU to flop.

flop: KT3

He checks, and I check behind.

turn: J

He checks, and I bet $150. He calls.

River is a blank. He checks and I fire $300.

Thoughts?

This story is inconsistant with everything but KK & TT, which is clearly a small fraction of your range. Unless you're against an idiot, or a weak-tight (and what you describe doesn't sound like either), save your money.

bet the flop

your reasoning?

most hands miss most flops

since you checked the flop, I'd just try to get to showdown.

Too add....this flop is heavily in your range of holdings.

he cold called from sb. so I'm assuming a decent pair here. if i bet flop i'm getting called pretty much every time here. do you disagree?

If you guys are over 200bbs deep, he could easily cold call with something like 66. More of a read on villain would help - but I wouldn't necessarily limit his range to JJ+.

Either way, if you were intent on bluffing, you should to start on the flop.

Also, there's roughly 300 in the pot - I think you have to bet more than 150. 200 at least.

Not as often as I think you get called on the turn.

Jim,

Can you explain this? What hands in villain's range do you we have sd value against?

i totally agree, which is why i took the line. he's not checking 2 streets with a set, and if he is he's check raising turn. knowing this- it will set up river bluff for me. by betting flop in this situation I feel I'm basically handing him the pot a lot of times unless I 3 out him. thoughts on this?
