Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side) in september
Alright, I'm coming from Iceland over to Canada for 2-3 days of playing poker. I need to know what kind of games I should be expecting, I was hoping for a 3/6 NL or something similar. Also I need big time some education in poker etiquette for live play since I've only ever played live with friends.
How much should I be tipping the dealer and the staff for drinks and such. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to live play since poker is semi-illegal in Iceland and this is my first time playing live. Any help is greatly appreciated. p.s. I've used the search and found a few threads regarding this, but is seemed that that were 1/2 games with a max buy in of $100 or 5/5 and max buy in $200 ($300?), is that really all they have? |

Re: Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side) in september
sonce you admit to search function and got something out of it Iw ll help lol The search funtion is terrible
In CA there are 2 casinos Fallsview and Casino Niagara Fallsview - spreads 1/2 (100 mx) 2/5 (200 mx) 5/5 (500 max) and 5/10 (1000 max) there is also a 10/20 NL (3k max) and sometimes higher but thats not what you are looking for. if you play 3/6 normally the 5/5 is fine or the 5/10 they are both fairly wild with lots of money to be made ( i play the 5/10 every weekend or every other about) As far as tips 1-3 dollars is fine , dealers dont keep there own there so I don't feel obligation to give them any "extra" , but always tip a dollar tip waitress a dollar as well. |

Re: Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side) in september
just got back to the internet now and saw this reply. Thank you so much, looks like the 5/5 is the one I'll be looking into to start with and hopefully make my way to the 5/10.
Are you guidelines for tipping valid at these levels, i.e. should I be tipping $1 if I win an average size pot (maybe 20-30bb) and then increase to $3 as the pot increases? I'd really hate to be consider rude when I go 'live' for the first time. Is there perhaps a guideline I can have, something I can read about this. Thanks a lot for the info. I'll be accompanied by 5-10 canadian poker players I've heard (my friend is planning this) but apparently they rolled their eyes when I said limits of 5/10 and max buy in $1,000. So it looks like I'll be alone for a long time and have no help in etiquette from players that have done this before. How is it with breaks? I smoke and drink a lot of beer while I play, is it rude to break for that for 10 minutes every hour or so? |

FYI Alcohol is not free on the Canadian side. It is at Seneca on the American side, but last time I was at Fallsview it was 3.75 a beer.

Re: Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side) in september
I don't have a problem paying 3.75 for a beer, in Iceland I pay $11 for a bottle of Stella/Viking (the beer I drink when I go out), so 3.75 is just going to have me drink more
How about food at the table or do you have to go away? |

Re: Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side) in september
Then I won't eat at the tables, do you guys have any pointers for steaks? Oh and the best place for English breakfast would be nice too
But to the original question, breaks what kind of breaks are tolerated and not considered rude... And Fallsview is the place to go right? Should I even be thinking about the other one (from what I've read it looks like it's bad with only 1/2 NL but still a better rake deal) Thanks to anyone who has posted in this thread. My friend in Canada is planning everything except the poker since she doesn't have a clue about poker and I need to have this bulletproof for both of us, so thanks to future posters aswell |

Re: Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side) in september
I hope this post is within the rules of this forum, I've checked .
Alright, I've been searching the forums a bit for the Fallsview Casino, Live poker and Niagara in general. So this is the info I have. (I've read the B&M Card Room Newbie Guide v. 4) <ul type="square">[*] Call ahead on weekends to get a seat (I'm going on a weekend so I need this)[*] Rake is $5 per half/hour for a seat[*] There is a 5/5 (this means sb & bb are $5 right?) $500 max NL buy-in game there[*] There is a 5/10 $1000 max NL buy-in game there[*] The Casino Niagara is really not an option[*] Beer is $3.75 [*] Tip to a waitress is $1 (for a drink)[*] Tip to a dealer is $1-3 (at these limits)[*] Tip bartenders more for faster service next time (thanx LV tipping guide)[*] Don't slow roll[*] Pay attention[*] You either chop or you don't (in regards to the blinds)[*] State my action, so not the time to get nervous[*] Get some chips and start practicing chip tricks as not to look as much of a live noob
Can anyone just clear this as correct (some of this looked outdated)? Now to unanswered questions (I have now read something in the region of 30+ threads about Live poker, Niagara Falls and the Fallsview) <ul type="square">[*] Breaks from the table, how often, if at all can you take one (I know it's -EV but I just want to have fun win or loose) (I'd be taking them probably after folding UTG or UTG+1 unless there is a better and more appropriate way too do so)[*] Running it twice, will I face this question[*] Can I straddle? I love to when I'm winning, just to donate money [*] I won't ask to show hands, ever. But if I get asked should I always show? Are there some situations where you don't have to?[*] Ipod? I don't sing (please bear in mind that I'm Icelandic and might not speak as good English as you do)[*] How many hands per hour?[*] Leave on my BB or when my half hour rate charge is due again? (and should I announce that I'm leaving at the end of the round / half hour)[*] Any idea if there will be any tournaments?
Other [OFF-TOPIC] <ul type="square">[*] Thanks bav, for many good replies I've seen[*] If someone is there on the 14-16th of September and wants easy money, I'll be there donating my money[*] A good place for a steak in between sessions[*] A good place for bacon and eggs in between drinking[*] A good website for things going in Ontario during the 14th-23rd (concerts, shows, stand up comedy, sports, stuff like this)
Any guesses on how I fare with my choices of games (5/5 $500 max & 5/10 $1000 max) my PT stats are: 50k hands at 5NL-50NL (mostly 10NL and 25NL) 20.8/12.43/2.49 (but recently upping my aggression post flop) I have a win rate of 10PTbb/100 Hands + I 'never' fold 72o pf live |

A previous post by me:
