Re: Salads. Do you eat them and if so, what do you put in them?
[ QUOTE ]
Not even some lemon juice? Or rice vinegar? No calories to speak of in those, and they would brighten it up considerably. [/ QUOTE ] I don't like salad dressing, but I go nuts with the lemon juice. You're right -- it really picks it up, and adds no calories. Standard salad: Salad mix from a bag Bell pepper (one or two, whatever color) Carrots Grape tomatoes (much better than cherry) Lemon juice Not much, but it's great. |

Re: Salads. Do you eat them and if so, what do you put in them?
Grape tomatoes are definitely good. The main thing about tomatoes though is if you can get them with something like that farm fresh taste to them. Most mass produced tomatoes are almost completely tasteless(which is why canned tomatoes are recommended over fresh for sauces).
Tomatoes picked at the height of their flavor instead of when green, though, can have a very intense flavor, sometimes almost unbearably so. Good cherry tomatoes are incredibly flavorful and add a lot to a salad, but whatever kind, it's mostly how they were picked that matters. By the way, more people should try rice vinegar. It often comes in different flavors, and adds no calories. It's flavorful enough that you don't need any oil, which is pretty cool and helps keep calories way down. Also, regular flavored vinegars can be great, like just a bottle of vinegar with a sprig of thyme stuck in it and left to sit for a while. You can get a very aromatic vinegar that again doesn't need any oil. |
