Advice re: Poker in VAN BC
Canadian working in the US. I'm having Visa problems and likely have to move back to Canada. Toronto is home but I'm considering Vancouver - need confirmation if there is more Casino and Cardroom poker than in Toronto. If that is indeed the case anyone care to recommend some areas that would be close or in the city that are readily accessible to poker?
Short version: Considering moving to Vancouver BC. Anyone give me the lowdown on B&M poker in the area? I play limit - 10/20, 15/30. Appreciate any insight and advice. Thanks! |

Re: Advice re: Poker in VAN BC
I will only comment on the Edgewater downtown, so you will want to hear an update on Riverrock in Richmond and possibly the one out in Langley..
Most of the action everywhere has switched to NL. The Edgewater almost always has limit 4-8 and 4-8kill games that are super loose but a bit too small for serious play. They usually get a 20-40-Kill game going by afternoon but I haven't played in it recently so have no comments. Although they list 10-20limit, they never have it going. NL there is always 1-2($200 max) and almost always 2-5 ($1000max), sometimes a bigger game too. I would consider living downtown, especially if you are interested in the Edgewater games but mostly because it is way nicer IMO than areas near the other casinos. D. |

Re: Advice re: Poker in VAN BC
Toronto doesn't have any casinos in the city, you'd have to drive out to Casino Rama, Brantford or Niagara Falls to play.

Re: Advice re: Poker in VAN BC
That's exactly why I was asking. Not wild about playing in underground games. If Vancouver has a better poker scene it's worth considering.
Thanks for your comments David. Riverrock is the place to play isn't it? Would it be worthwhile living outside of the city to be closer? |

Re: Advice re: Poker in VAN BC
Edgewater
Pros: Located in DT Vancouver, $4 rake. Cons: Hard to get multiple games going. You would be lucky to find more than 1 2/5 NL game or 20/40 kill game going on any given weekday, weekends are obv different. Riverrock (Richmond): Pros: 25 tables (largest poker room in Canada). Friendly and accomodating staff. More action than most other lower mainland casinos. Easy to get 2-3 2/5 NL games going and 1-2 5/10 games on the weekends. Cons: $5 rake. Located in Richmond. No limit games > $4/8 |

Re: Advice re: Poker in VAN BC
Thats a problem then. I'm exclusively a Limit player. I'm most interested in mid-limit games 8/16, 10/20, 15/30, 20/40 and 30/60.
Are there any viable options for mid-limit HE in Vancouver GTA? |

Re: Advice re: Poker in VAN BC
Holliday Inn is the smallest room in the sketchiest area but they have the most limit action. I think every game there is limit actually.
