Re: Villain shoves 100BB on the river and i have a pair
3-Bet preflop to a button raiser is fine, he's 21 / 18 and has a huge range here. KQ is way ahead of his range.
He has a very wide calling range because of the deepstacks though. I'd say he flopped a set and played it very slowly due to the deepstacks. Could be Jacks, 4's, or 7's. Very small outside possibility of AA. But slowplaying it so deepstacked is a big risk. Also a very minute possibility of 56s for the river straight. It would be loose calling on his part but if he thinks he can bluff you in position. To all the people who are saying 3-betting KQ is horrible... It's just.... not. What do you reraise a buttom raise with? QQ+ & AK only.... You'll get paid off a lot by smart players. If you have a very small 3-bet range people will call with low pockets to bust... And they will succeed. By widening your range you do not make it profitabe to call with low pocket pairs, and if they cold call with AQ, flop a Q and run into your AA or KK, you make money. |

its not that bad to repop KQ preflop versus button. OP doesn't seem very good at reraised pots (no offence) so I wouldn't do it if I was him.

[ QUOTE ] see u keep 3 bet someone, he got so tired of u. he could took a stand on any two, JQ 77 44, AA, KK JJ or QQ even u have one. but the way he play looks like two pairs. fold is easy, do u really want to show u 3bet reraised with KQ? pf 3-bet on KQ is bad!!!! [/ QUOTE ] Why is this so bad? It's not suited but it's way ahead of button's range. [/ QUOTE ] But you're way behind his calling range. I don't think it's that bad, do it sometimes when your image is right and especially if he's weak vs 3-bets. Just don't do it as a standard. |

Re: Villain shoves 100BB on the river and i have a pair
Nick - reading inbetween the lines, if its way behind his calling range, and way ahead of his raising range, then clearly its profitable to reraise.
ie. he's clearly folding often enuff preflop. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. I was obviously exagerating, but we're in good shape vs his raising range and in bad shape vs his calling range. In a vacuum re-raising ATC becomes profitable (as austiger pointed out) assuming he folds quite a lot, but we really can't keep re-raising seemingly good players oop with hands we're in such a bad shape against when he calls. He'll quickly realise what we're doning and using his position and start playing back. So I would recommend to re-raise your strong hands and occassionally KQ, SCs etc when you have a good solid image and havn't been 3-betting a lot lately. Always re-raising KQ against a good player in a spot like this will become a losing play. |
