Don't try it too often, but I like it. I wouldn't have tried river bluff vs most people just because it's not very obvious what exactly you're repping, and it looks like he has AK or AQ on turn, which often looks up a river. But yea, NH vs this particular thinking TAG.

but it would encourage trickier opponents to not buy it.

Where is the rationale in that?

If you don't think you can fold AT- here often enough to warrant any moves ever then you should not be calling this flop bet in order to 'take it away later'. If anything, you should be looking to play bluff catcher. Can't have it both ways.

I am not saying that floating here isn't correct under the right circumstances. What I am refuting is your point that turning your hand into a bluff on the flop is always a bad thing.

That wasn't his point at all. No idea where you got that.

His point was that he thinks raising the flop looks like BS

PF is fine.
Fold flop.
Bet more on turn and give up on river if called on turn.

I decide to call here preflop (how bad?)

[/ QUOTE ]
Uh... not bad at all? You can re-raise sometimes, but I'd call more often.

[ QUOTE ]
how often should I be pulling moves like this on boards like this?

[/ QUOTE ]
Not often.

It's fine sometimes, but use it pretty sparingly. Remember, he actually HAS an A a lot of the time.

As played, I'd bet more on the turn. I'm usually gonna make this bluff a one shot deal, so I want max FE on the turn. River depends on how big of laydowns you think he's capable of. I'd just give up vs most, I think you see a lot of Ax crying calls.

raise flop, see where you are, you really have no info going into turn, but your bluff worked.

Floating flop is kinda meh, but ok with some decent reads. Raising flop is fine vs a lot of TAGs at this level because they don't know you well enough/can't read hands well enough to know you have set/2pair/air here. You fold out AT- like always.

Also, I think your turn bet size sucks. I would bet more like $74 and shutdown on the river if called. Your turn bet will show an immediate profit against a lot of players, but once they call the turn they aren't folding river too often.

I guess I misunderstood then. He first said that betting the flop would be more of a bluff.... I agreed and said there is nothing wrong with him turning his hand into a bluff here every so often. Then he said that it would encourage tricky players to not believe him. I take this to mean that he doesn't like the bluff line because it seems transparent. I in return refute that argument. If I am still way off then I apologize as I obviously didn't understand what was meant by those comments.

I was making the point that I was turning my hand into a bluff just by calling, and thought it looked a more believable bluff to call/raise turn than just raise flop
