Re: Limit or NL on a limited live bankroll?
[ QUOTE ]
Low stakes Limit Poker is too hard to beat. Takes a lot of luck since you will be playing 5-7 way pots a lot of the time. [/ QUOTE ] so true...oh wait. What were we talking about again? Low limit is easy if you understand the game. If you're comfortable with NL, play NL. |

Re: Limit or NL on a limited live bankroll?
I wouldn't take a shot since it's not easily replaced. I'd build it up to around $2,000 then play NL in the casino. It's better to be safe than sorry

Re: Limit or NL on a limited live bankroll?
ive been on a low bankroll most of the last 15 years, seldom was my roll over $2000. thats whats nice about playing online, and its not right of the govt to force us to travel over 200 miles to a casino and play for higher limits than we feel comfortable. just the other day in OK (only casino within 200 miles i could get someone to drive me to)i was pissed the cheapest game was a min $100 buyin. $1-2 NL. no fixed limit 2-4 or 4-8 here, no omaha or stud either. no $1-5 spread limit, which is rarely offered in any casinos outside of wendover nv, but its by far the best game to build up a small bankroll at. yeah i could make a $1000-1500 last and start paying for rooms with it at times, and build it up to $3000 or more within 3 months, but only if i bought in for no more than the min buyin, which id look for a casino where its $40-60, certainly not $100. buying in for $100 is taking on WAY TOO MUCH VARIANCE.

[/ QUOTE ] Bwahahahahaha [ QUOTE ] You're still going to need a good run of cards to come out ahead [/ QUOTE ] Ah, so THAT'S the secret to winning at kardz! [/ QUOTE ] We are talking about playing these games on a VERY limited Bank Roll. If he had an acceptable cushion to survive the variance in low stakes Limit poker, of course it would be beatable. The "good run of cards" I speak of in this situation refers to a hot streak.... a necessity in this case with the desperation presented by the bank roll involved. Please, you try building a bankroll playing 2-4 with 100 or so Big Blinds and no rebuys and report your success here. Essentially, all I am saying is it is nearly impossible to "grind it out" in a low stakes limit game on this roll. Whereas a lucky hand or two in NL can double or triple his Bank Roll quickly and greatly increase his chances of not going broke (as quickly, anyway). Either way, he's basically playing Blackjack to get started. He either gets lucky or he doesn't. To survive, he needs to win big... and quickly. NL should maximize the chances of that happening (in exchange increasing the chances of going broke quicker) |

Re: Limit or NL on a limited live bankroll?
[ QUOTE ]
5-7-way limit pots maker low-limit games immensely juicy and profitable, if you know how to play them right. (I believe some guy named Miller wrote something about this a while back. Some other guys named Sklansky and Malmuth helped him, I hear tell. ) That said, limit is an inherently higher-variance game than NL. [/ QUOTE ] Could you explain the last statement, please. I have heard it from multiple sources, but it seems intuitively wrong to me. Granted, there are going to be more people on draws, but you cannot dump your whole buy-in on a single hand in limit, like you can in NL. I appreciate the help. |

[/ QUOTE ] If OP is playing in the Bay Area, the 2/4 game is a hard game to build BR with, due to the high variance of multiway pots and with the $4.00 drop that is the house "rake". I think that if he sticks to the game he knows best, NLHE, playing our 3-100 spread limit relatively tight, he should be able to build faster than you think. Take an occassional shot at an MTT too if the field is small. I played a $60 RA last week with just the buy-in, no rebuys or add-ons, and ended up chopping it 4 ways for $1200 each. |
