Re: Question about Man vs. Wild
lol
AliveinFl: Have you ever eaten a snake? What kind? Bear: Yeah I've eaten quite a few. I ate a rattlesnake in the Rockies, and in the Army in North Africa we used to carry them around with their mouths sewed up so they'd be fresh when you wanted to eat them. |

Re: Question about Man vs. Wild
I like the show and I learn stuff. His advice to float rivers to make time is very very bad though. The object is to stay alive. Not drown. I tell my kid never [censored] do that. I also carry a flint and striker when outdoors.

Re: Question about Man vs. Wild
90% of what Bear does one should never do. the show takes a far more extreme angle then Les's Survivorman

Re: Question about Man vs. Wild
Whatever, next time I'm stranded on a mountain I'm def going to just slide down the face of it using a broken ski pole as a rudder. Or go spelunking through a glacier ("glassear" as he pronounces it).

Re: Question about Man vs. Wild
One episode, bear had on a safety rope while making a climb. We had to freeze frame and rewind to make sure, but it is there.
It is in the episode where he swims under a big pile of crap. He then floats to a dead end and decides to spiderman up the slick walls back up to the desert. The rope is attached during the most difficult part of the spiderman climb. He also ate some eggs from a nest in that episode. |

Re: Question about Man vs. Wild
I'm pretty sure he had some type of clip when he traversed across the worn down rope bridge.
I think there a certain things he can't do without a little saftey esp given even an exp climber is prone to an occasionally slip...otherwise the show would lose its insurance etc. lol...Discovery would not be happy if the show ends with Bear falling to his death. |

Re: Question about Man vs. Wild
I was debating w/ a friend the other day about MvW being entirely scripted and rigged. In the Iceland ep he "sees" a hot spring in the distance as just a cloud of rising smoke, then decides its "ok" to jump in the 30 degree water because he can warm himself in the hot spring. When he gets across the river and finds the spring... la de da, its perfect for laying in (shallow and warm). If it were some 500 ft hole in the ground he would have been f'ed in the A. Still great TV watching tho... the dude is taking chunks out of a fish's back like its rib's at outback....

Man vs. Wild = ZOMG EXTREEEEEEME OUTDORRZ Survivorman = Okay, here's what you should actually do. [/ QUOTE ] I will agree that Survivorman tends to give more practical advice but I still wouldn't want someone basing a survival situation strictly off of his advice. His show is lacking in some regards and he gives out bad advice at times just as Man Vs Wild does. |

Re: Question about Man vs. Wild
[ QUOTE ]
"Normally this should only be attempted by incredibly experienced climbers; since I've got 20 years climbing experience, I'm gonna do it"... ok, so what would I do? [/ QUOTE ] Well this is basically him saying "don't try this at home." which is probably something they want to discourage. I think its basically I'm going to try this because I have 20 yrs experience. If you are ever in this situation, you should try it too, but you'll probably die, but its better than nothing, but still don't try this at home. |
