9 is rare in this situation, more like Ax, PP or just a random donk bet. I think you lose tons of value by just calling this down. Folding here is absolutely impossible.

This was exactly my thought process while I was in the hand. I called with the intention of raising the turn, thoughts? Here's the next street.

Flop: ($3) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG bets $1, Hero calls $1.

Turn: ($5) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG bets $2, Hero raises to $7.65

Fold to a re-raise standard vs. this 44/4?

$1 flop bet in no way defines his hand to a 9 or a weak ace.

You need to define his hand further by repopping him to $3 and then re-eval according to his actions.

[/ QUOTE ]

So if he has you beat he takes your money but if he doesn't he doesn't lose any? Try again...

Call the flop bet to extract value. I'm pegging him on a range comprised of a weak ace or a bluff and raising won't do you any good here.

[/ QUOTE ]

And do what on the turn if:

He c/r's you? We have learned nothing new about villains hand.

If he check call's you and bets the river what have we learned about villain's hand?

IMO we need to define it further on the flop so we can determine our actions on the turn. Yes we lose value, but we lose even more value if we havent defined his range.

good posts Ramana

raise flop then b/f turn and do the same on river

you lose so much value from lower aces (huge part of his range) by calling down

As played I probably raise to around $5.75 on the turn, and value bet the river for around half the pot, that weak $1 flop beat and those stats to me means he is a player that will be easily scared off- $7.65 is a bit heavy if he has A8s or similar IMO.

I'm part of the raise the flop group here. If you raise the flop and he leads into you again it's usually a fold because that's the donks way of getting value from a 9. Raising the flop keeps us away from more difficult decisions on the turn and river.
