Is the river bet a bluff?

[/ QUOTE ]
come on

[/ QUOTE ]

Humour me - I play 1/2 and I don't get this hand.

his range can easily include 22/33/55/66/77/35/56/57 right?

And if we have a read that he can make a good laydown of a set/2pr here, then that's about the only reason I can see for betting river.

But - you're right. I don't get it if there is another reason because overpairs just won't call here so we are essentially either bluffing to fold out sets/2prs or giving money to better hands.

Can you explain it if I'm wrong.

my first post was kind of in disgust to your post, the bet is OBVIOUSLY for value, you can argue that it is bad, you can contribute to the conversation, but instead you post... tehehe is this a bluff????!!?!?!!

edit: also to clarify it should be glaringly obvious that checking behind on the river yields better EV than bluffing the river, but I think a valuebet is slightly best.

[/ QUOTE ]

arent bluffing the river and valuebetting the river exactly the same?

NO. Understanding the motives behind your play is what constitutes the skill in your play. Often times the actual act may be similiar to other plays but the reasoning will be different and concise.

Villain looks like he has an overpair here. I think better hands tend to CR on the flop/turn or donk river. I go for value again on the river, especially if opponent is bad/I have a crazy image.

few medium pairs, if any, call you often on that turn.

[/ QUOTE ]

i think 77+ all call here pretty frequently. i could see that as a pretty good second barrel card.

otoh, how often do i get bluff c/r'ed? i'm folding AA 100% to a turn c/r and i think villain probably knows that, so there aren't too many hands i'm calling. on the flip side, how often does he c/c with 2 pair to let me fire again? probably sometimes.

villain is diatty, btw.

ZING! Maybe if you are lucky, he'll let you wash his car. Later, maybe he'll give you a tip on how to overplay an overpair.

as played fine, sometimes i dont bet the turn as i know people could bluff me off the better hand, its a type of play ive made increasingly (check-raising turn when putting opponent on overpair; only problem is people cant fold overpairs which is why i think its an unwise move at times, but anyways).

it boils down to whether this nit is capable of bluffing you off the turn, if so, check behind, value bet river, or call his bet, otherwise if you think he only check-raises turn with a better hand then fire and fold to raise.

a very unenlightening post this, but i think it is another opponent dependent situation.

I can't see him having a set or straight, so I think these are very good valuebets. NH.
