Are there any text message scams?
I almost never use text messaging, but tonight I've received a few that really confuse me. They consisted of asking what I'm doing, and even mentioned a local bar, but the confusing part comes with the fact that I have no idea who's number it is, and that when I actually tried to call the number instead of texting it the number comes up unrecognised. I'm still getting text messages to which I'm still flirting back in the form of text, but without knowing who this is it's starting to bother me. I'm really starting to wonder what's going on. It's a local number so I'm not paying rates or anything, and I think it's a real person but I can't be sure. Is there any way of figuring out if this is a real person?

Re: Is there any text message scams?
I dunno about actual scam scams, but there are lots of loose companies that will just add numbers to their lists, you might end up getting charged by them, especially if the numbers don't show up as recognized. Try responding with the word "stop" (which afaik is like a legally required stop trigged with any text-based company, like those goofy latenight rington commercials you see) ...
Alternately go to your local Sprint/Verizon/Cingular store and ask them to look up the number and tell you whose it is. They obviously won't do this (against policy), but I mean if you find a chick who works there and flirt with her, or invent some sort of creative story to get it out of them, you should be able to accomplish this. Or just explain the situation and ask them to tell you if it's a real person or not. Otherwise there are no known text messaging scams that I am aware of, although there definitely could be. |

Re: Is there any text message scams?
It sounds like the only thing you're getting scammed out of is the time it takes you to read and reply. Just go along with it, if this were me I doubt I would even proceed with caution in this situation.

It just bothers me when I called the number and there wasn't a set up voice mail account. |

Try responding with the word "stop" [/ QUOTE ] Or "Who the [censored] is this?" That might work too. |
