Talking about play while not in the hand...How would you handle this?
I was playing 3/6 HE at Borgata last week. The table had two decent players, and the rest were below average (including the two I am about to mention).
At the river, I was in the pot heads-up with an ace-high flush (no paired board or SF possible). I bet out, got raised, and I (naturally) re-raised. The other player was about to re-raise me when the guy next to him says "what are you doing, he probably has the nuts!" So he just calls and lays down a king-high flush. It takes a lot to get me going, but I figure this cost me several large bets. The dealer did nothing and I yelled for the floor and explained my situation. They warned the guy not to do that again. Was I wrong to do this because he was not that great a player? I felt that this was a case where the integrity of the game had to be maintained somewhat. Your thoughts, please. Thanks, Nat |

At 3/6? It's often routine for half the table to comment on every street.

calling the floor is really nitted here.
like someone else side, this is 3/6, people constantly comment in hands when they aren't suppose to. nothing really you can do about it. sometimes when theres a hand going and some retard decides to start commenting ill politely hold up my finger to my nose and do the "shhhh" sign. the most you can do. |

Re: Talking about play while not in the hand...How would you handle th
I had a similar situation last night where my neighbour cost me a $40 call from a complete fish. The guy was trying to decide if he should call (which he always did) when my neighbour makes 2-3 comments about how he should fold. His one comment was that he needed at least a pair to call me. The dealer just sat there, and finally another player tells him he can't help the guy make the decision.
As far as I'm concerned the dealer should say something, thats they're job. Afterwards I just pointed out to the guy that he can't say anything, and that with a lot of people his comments would start a fight. I think he realized that he was out of line. Its important to politely point out that its one player to a hand. |

Re: Talking about play while not in the hand...How would you handle this?
It'd have irked me a bit.
You might've called the floor a little fast. I'd have tried to explain the rule to him about 1 player to a hand and the reasons why(this isn't tapping the glass). Then if he did it again, I might call the floor to have them explain it again which helps let him know further just how bad it is and that you really meant it. Some people do need the floor to explain it to them for it to sink in. Some need to be reminded that this isn't just their home game. b |
