Default .50 cent piece used in 2/4 limit game

Is the use of the .50 piece better for the player or the house (used at Mandaly Bay) in a low limit game?

Does the house rake earlier in smaller increments -vs- rounding up to the nearest dollay?

Last time I played at MB they were using quarters (not half dollars) in the 2-4 limit. My impression was they were doing this so they could rake earlier in smaller increments. Regardless of EV considerations, I found it annoying to have to deal with a pile of quarters.

.50 pieces are better for the house and worse for the players/dealers. By law they shouldn't be taking $5 on $48 pot, but some places do. However, with a .50 piece in the game they can definitely take their $4.50 instead of four.

The dealer's hate them because most people will just tip them .50 instead of a dollar when they get one which is major -EV for them

That's what I though but I wasn't sure. The half dollars at the craps table are better for the players who want to play low stakes. I'm surprised more places haven't gone to this seeing MB do it.

The servers loved them when I was playing. She got $1 minumum plus any half dollars I had accumulated to that point. The dealers got the normal 2 chips.

When my room got rid of the quarters we actually had nits complaining because of the rake increase. This was in fact a decrease but these nits couldn't figure that out.

Places are moving away form these, not towards. When the rake was 5% these were needed a lot more. With the 10% rake and newer dealers they just aren't needed as much (newer dealers will lose time messing with them to offset the casino's gain from having them).

Well, the only houses with a rake more than $5 are GVR and Red Rock and neither user coin. So they definately aren't taking 4.50 on a pot of 48.
