Do you keep your full stack on the table after a couple big wins?

i was playing the other night and about 3 hours into my session my 200$ buyin had grown to about 700. at this point i wanted to assure i was having a winning night being so fortunate with the cards thus far and i had the deal give me a couple blacks and left about 350 on the table to play with still. Just wondering if others do this also? i mean really i see no reason i would need to have that much on the table seeing as its a 300$ cap buyin and even if someone pushed all in on me i would likely have them covered 2 to 1. and that way if by some bad beats i lose 100-200 in a couple hands i will just leave instead of playing more and possibly losing more

It's called ratholing and deserves a swift kick in the nuts. Don't do it.

I don't know of anyplace that will allow you to do this without changing games. Taking money out of your stack and putting it into your pocket is called "ratholing" and is against the rules at every casino I have ever been to.

forget casino rules, the casino isnt going to kick you in the nuts, but other players should, thats their money you took off the table without giving them a chance to play back at you, its not all yours until you stand up with it [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

so this is generally frowned upon i see. Aside from the social aspects, do you see this as beneficial? i could easily just leave the table go cash out and get lunch, come back with 250 buy in and play a diff table

i dont see how it could help you unless youre a losing player, it is always better to have the entire table covered in chips, if you drop down to a single buyin you cant extract maximum value out of your hands unless somehow everybody else is below or at 1 buyin...

It's not generally anything, it's just flat out not allowed. The dealer let you take $200 off the table? They other players didn't ask you WTF you were doing?

Yes, it is frowned upon. No, it is not beneficial for the good player. There is an advantage in having the table covered. Yes, it is beneficial for the bad player.

Yes, you can certainly take your money off the table, go get lunch, and come back with a normal buyin. If you want to sit at the same table again, most casinos have a set time you have to be gone to be able to buyin again with less than you left with.

If you choose that route and make a habit of it I think people will catch on and you'll be labeled an angle shooter and a swift kick in the nuts will surely result.

Not only frowned upon, it's against the rules. Of course, you're more than welcome to leave for an hour, then come back and buy in again.

I remember my first (and only) time at a $2-5 game, up about $600 after only two hours, and the composition of the table had changed to scary. I felt that at least half of the folks were tough, aggressive players - probably better than me - and several of them had me covered. The waiting list was about 2 hours, and I had driven 2.5 hours to get there.

I cashed out, drove back, and enjoyed a few beers. No shame - I'd do it again.

Be careful with this. As others have noted, it is against the rules to take chips out of play during a NL session. If someone sees you put chips in your pocket, they can demand those chips if you call and lose an all-in (assuming they had you covered). An angle shooter would only mention the chips if it was to their advantage and would justifiably refuse to pay those chips if they lose on the basis that the chips were hidden.
