The only people who consider poker a sport are those who have never played sports or those who never do anything physical in their life. It's an excuse for fat-asses and lazy people to make themselves feel better.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sad but true. The people that typically claim it to be a sport are the ones that still wear sports jerseys even though they are about 50 pounds overweight and/or bald and/or over 30. It's the Al Bundy syndrome .

Al bundy syndrome, made me LOL

There are too many crappy events in the Olympics as it is.

I still dont get why horse pagentry or gynmkhana or whatever its called is an Olympic event. Or at least i dont get why the horse doesnt get the medal instead of the rider.

Lets make WRC an Olympic event!

The day I, as a heavily overweight lazy fat arse, can call myself a sportsman because i play a card game is the day i realise the entire world has gone nuts.

Fwiw, if it were to get chosen, the purest event with the least luck would have to be used (whilst still having a mass appeal) - a heads up deepstack PL holdem tourney where rounds are played best of 3 (at least) would be best imo.

Am I not serious about poker not being a sport, or am I not serious about things that aren't sports not belonging in the Olympics?

Actually, my question is irrelevant since I'm serious about both parts of the statement.

Poker is not a sport. Thus, it has no place in the Olympics.

They used to compete in art at the Olympic Games.

"With the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, and the celebration of the first modern Olympic Games, French Baron Pierre de Coubertin saw the fulfillment of his ideals — men being educated in both mind and body"

Next time you are in your local casino playing, take a look around your table/the room and tell me these folks are athletes.
