Do you tip when you pick up takeout?

I don't tip for takeout unless I made an out of the ordinary request and they met it.

I probably over-tip in most situations, but for takeout I'm not tipping as a matter of course for the time it takes to throw some stuff in a bag and ring up my bill.

I typically do, espeically if I'll get takeout again.

Not usually. Sometimes I do at less popular restaurants that really need business though.

The worst is there is this amazing pie place right around the corner from my gf's apartment. The pies are incredible but they charge like 6 dollars a slice. I definitely get glares when I don't tip, especially since the place is so busy, but [censored] come on...I'm paying $15 with tax for two pieces of pie.

I tip 10% if it's ready when I get there. If I have to wait, they don't get anything.

One time they told me 20 minutes, I get there, and I'm sitting on my ass at the bar waiting for like 15 minutes because I can see my order ready wayyy off in the distance and nobody was coming to help me. I was ready to stand on the bar and be like "HEY, BRING ME [censored] FOOD BEFORE IT GETS COLD. JEEZ"

Why not just pay people enough to start with?

If someone goes out of their way to be helpful give them a tip, but tipping as a matter of course seems silly.

I tip for takeout at one place only, the little italian place in town. It's a TINY little restaurant, the food is amazing and it's wicked cheap. It's also family run, so I know the kids are getting squat. So I always tip them something. But any other place, it's just "Thanks, Have a great night"

Good question, this is one I've often wondered about.

I generally tip 20%+ at restaurants for good service so I feel I'm pretty generous but I probably don't tip enough
for take out.

For those that do, what about pizza and subs? I never tip at these places.
