1/2 Stud High: AKJs- Jammed on 3rd
Am I supposed to fold here? My flush is totally live, as are the aces (and the jacks if I manage to catch an ace)- obv queens and kings are out, hurting my straight possibilities.

I'm not folding 3rd. Might even raise if I'm feeling froggy. You are assuming that #6 & #8 have split pairs...probably do...but I'm seeing 4th nonetheless. If I were to catch a diamond or at best, the Q of diamonds, they better buckle their chinstraps.

No, don't fold here. Plan on seeing fifth and take it from there. Obviously you're seeing the river with any diamond and an Ace is likely good as well if your opponents don't improve. Queen or ten gives you a gutter to broadway. Plan to hit the Q of diamonds on 4th.

Ok, thanks guys. I thought so- just doing a check up.
Assuming I blank completely on 4th, what should I be willing to call to see fifth? I figure with a huge pot I should at least be willing to call one bet. |

On third, you'd have to pry those cards out of my cold, dead fingers. On fourth, the pot's big enough that I think you have to call two bets if it comes to that.

No, you don't fold there. You're in a great spot. Whether to cap it off and go to war, or call will be the debate. That will depend mostly on your opponents and their tendencies. I wouldn't want to lose anybody, but if I thought they'd take the action I'd be fine with jamming until I had a reason not to (not catching any diamond, ace, queen, king, or to a lesser extent a ten on 4th)

Re: 1/2 Stud High: AKJs- Jammed on 3rd
Hello,
I will make my first post here in Eons... by responding to an easy question. No, this is absolutely not a fold. AS matter of fact in those low limit loosey goosey games... that hand is an auto cap if you ask me. To answer a question from a below post. No you don't fold if you blank out on fourth. (obvioulsy with any paired doorcard you reavaluate) Also, notice by capping 3rd... any card that ends up making you high on 4th and opening the betting....improves your hand... making your lead out bet that much better. Do not be afraid to ram and jam sr8 flush draws in loose stud games. Your opponents will pay off much more than they should and you profit by each and every bet that goes in. Also, since you are a 2+2er... you know how/when to get away from a hand... correct? Good to post here again. Regards, CJ |
