Why is Diablo 2 more revolutionary than Diablo 1?

I think Dune is missing there for RTS's, if we're talking revolutionary. Caveat being that hardly anyone played it even at the time it came out.

1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - ok
2. Resident Evil 4 - should be 5 spots lower
3. Super Mario 64 - this should be lower, 8-10 or not on
4. Half Life 2 - I have no clue why they included 2 over 1, these people are stupid
5. Super Mario World - this should be SMB 3, clearly someone made a mistake
6. Zelda: A Link to the Past - you can't have 2 Zelda games, sorry, either Ocarina of Time or Link pick one
7. Halo: Combat Evolved - This is such a joke
8. Final Fantasy XII - This makes no sense whatsoever
9. Tetris - ok
10. Super Metroid - ok

This may be the worst top 10 list I've seen in a while. One PC game and its Half Life 2? Not one RTS, TBS or American RPG. The one JRPG is XII? Thats [censored] insane. Why the hell is Halo on the list? Its [censored] awful.

Personally I thought many of the sequels or originals were better than those listed.

1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
--OK, but #1?

2. Resident Evil 4
--I thought 2 was better and more revolutionary

3. Super Mario 64
--I thought 3 & world were WAY better

4. Half Life 2
--Fun game, but again, not in my top 10

5. Super Mario World
--64 was better?

6. Zelda: A Link to the Past
--This game was awesome

7. Halo: Combat Evolved
--Revolutionary, though I enjoyed 2 more

8. Final Fantasy XII
--Didn't even finish this game, too repetitive w/ no work from the user for most battles. 2, 3 & 7 were better (US)

9. Tetris
--Can't argue

10. Super Metroid
--I wouldn't put this as my top 10

What about the original Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken, MGS, Star or Warcraft & Diablo 2? IMO these were more revolutionary (better?) than many of the above.

1. It's top 5 any which way you slice it.

2. No. 2 is fun but it's no different than 1.

3. They aren't.

5. Yes.

Mortal Kombat & Tekken in the top 10 is ludicrous.

I don't agree entirely with the list, and it certainly seems to be skewed recent (I also suspect that FFXII may be a typo for VII - if anyone gets their hands on the actual magazine let us know), but a lot of you are just being ridiculous.

I'm wondering if Half Life 2 included votes for counter strike. On it's own it doesn't really deserve a top 10 mention but if CS is considered part of HL2 then it's a definite top 10.

I don't get what criteria they are judging on. If they are judging on impact then pong should be up there. If they are judging on ho good the game is then Twilight Princess>Ocarina of Time etc, etc. If they are judging on how good the game was at the time it was released, where is Super Mario Brothers 1?

It seems like they are judging games on whatever random criteria they want. Also, regardless Street Fighter 2 and Starcraft should undoubtably be on there.

No. Seriously, not even close. It's too easy, the wolf parts are clunky, the story is nowhere near as engrossing. Just because it has improved visuals and the control has been refined doesn't make it better.

It isn't more revolutionary, IMO I think they wanted to make 2 first, fell short, and came up w/ 2 later. 2 is just a more complete game IMO.

I read up on it and I think the list is largely "reader's choice" so that would explain a little bit. It's unclear how much industry experts and Edge editors tinkered with the reader's choices, but full-blown reader's choice lists are horrendously bad (see IGN's RC lists).

If they were both released today, TP would be considered the slightly better game. Only reason some parts were considered easy, and the storyline wasn't as engrossing was because you had played through OoT, Majoras Maskand has seen that stuff before. However, compared to other games at the time of the release OoT destroys TP. But the impact even OoT made was nothing compared to the impact SMB 1 had.
