[ QUOTE ]
I agree, this is not a bluff preflop, this is a fairly standard 6max opening on the button.

Call the flop and c/r the turn. The problem with 3betting on the flop is that a bluff will fold 100% of the time, but if we check the turn villain may fire again. If he's got a set/two pair/overpair you'll probably be able to stack him anyways.

[/ QUOTE ]

This was exactly my thought process on this hand. I realised that if I 3 bet here, the only hands 4 betting all in is a set really as he will most probably put my on TT+ and try to 'stack-a-donk' - whilst still having a lot of outs against my straight.

So with this thought process in mind, I decided to call and evaluate on the turn.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (5 handed) internettexasholdem.com

MP ($63.65)
Hero ($63.90)
SB ($39.55)
BB ($55.15)
UTG ($47.50)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
2 folds, Hero raises to $2, SB calls $1.75, 1 fold.

Flop: ($4.50) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $2.5, SB raises to $5, Hero calls $2.50.

Turn: ($14.50) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero ??

Discuss further?

Jon

Forgot to add on my previous post that 3 betting this flop also loses any hand that might pay me off later such as A8 K8 etc etc

We are on the button; makes it pretty hard to check raise.

[/ QUOTE ]As far as I know 'stack-a-donk' refers to betting the flop and crai the turn, not going for two checkraises in a row.

We are happy to get it all in against a set; he might have outs but we still are a favorite. Against worse hand it's even better; the question is whether he simply folds to the 3bet.

As played I'm betting the turn for $10. I don't know if I could get away if he pushes.

pf is standard as hell....3bet flop any hand that makes a 4 str8 can really kill action.

Agreed you want money going in now. 3bet the flop to like $16 and then the pot gets so big that he feels committed and calls the rest of it off on the turn.

I 3bet the flop for 2 reasons.

1. Villain hasnīt comitted much of his stack yet.

2. How would you feel if a 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or a 9 came off? Do you feel that it would help your efforts to get the money in, with the best hand to boot?

So even if this looks like a safe flop to slowplay, there is really a whole lot of cards that kill your hand/action. Against my normal random opponent I would never slowplay here.

Villain is a nit: tight preflop, not very aggressive postflop. Calling his minraise and hoping that he'll keep up a bluff on the turn is loony, because this is usually not a bluff, and because he's not aggressive enough to really make it worth our while. Save the fancier lines for reckless, aggro opponents. Against this guy, our money should go in now.

That was very informative. Initially, I was thinking to call the raise and push the turn. I don't think he will chr/fold very often and the pot will be big enough on the turn for him to feel comitted.

I would think you have to just call, and then raise his turn bet... probably a push.
