Final Pot: t25636

I feel like I'm posting my worst hands today, but maybe I'll learn something. I knew this guy had an ace, but folding would've left me with about 4000. And it's about 20 spots to the next rung on the prize ladder. Can I get away from this hand?

If you're pot committed, it's because you misplayed the flop.

This shouldn't matter. Play to win, not to get to the next money level.

If you bet the flop here, maybe a 1/3 to 1/2 pot bet is probably better. If he check raises you on those size bets, you can still get away with a decent stack.

I think I check behind on this flop, since the ace hit, or like Thriller said, bet 1/3 pot. But as played, yes I think you're pot committed here.

So was this guy's Ace the A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] or did you take this down?

Check behind on the flop.

I can live with the check behind as well, though I wouldn't make it a habit every time an overcard hit.

Did you have any reads on this guy at all?

Check the flop, but not only because you fear your opponent has an ace. On a later street, with position, you may be able to get value out of a smaller pair or if a J/Q hits.

Youve got 25% in preflop - bad

you bet 40% of your statring stack on the flop - worse

65% of your stack in. - committed

I see the check through as a good play. If you believe him when he bets the turn, then fold. As played, its a check fold i think (unless villian is super lag, read dependant obv)

And we don't have to worry too much about FDs. We're already behind the nut flush draw, he doesn't have KQc and, while anything is possible, he's probably not playing anything else given pf. There's really nothing in his range we should be afraid of giving a free card to.

Good advice. I used to check the flop too much with an overcard, so maybe I've moved too far in the other direction. Unfortunately, I don't remember my read.

I'm also finding that I'm not as aware of other people's stack sizes as I should be. And the way that effects their range.

BTW, I did suck out and win with the flush. Bad play, good result.
