I'm setting up my home poker game for the 3rd of July (can play LONG time that way).
I'm playing a 10/25 cent blind game where you can buy-in anywhere from $5-25. I'm trying to figure out how many of each chip to give the players. I have a Desert Sands set $5-240 $25-150 $100-80 $500-20 $1000-35 When we play cash games, the denominations are cents and it works great. This allows me to do tournaments and have a cash game with the same set. I was thinking: 5cent - 40 25 cent - 20 1.00 - 8 $5.00 - 2 (they like having a "big chip or two") Am I ok with 40/20 on red/green chips? Do I need to do 60/24? Because the denominations are on the chips, no one ever gets confused with more than 2 colors. I've got more chips (the suited standard chips) if I need more red or green. thoughts: |

The only real advice I can give you is to make sure every chip is interchangable for every other. Don't have any weird amounts like a 20 cent unit because you can't change that with a 50 cent, etc. Same with 10s and 25s.... use fives, twenty-fives, dollars, and five dollars

Personally, I don't like the .10/.25 structure. I'm not sure why be I remember there being just too many .05 chips in play.
.25/.50 is probably a lot easier although it does double your stakes. For smaller stakes I can play .10/.20 with 10s, 50s, 1s and 5s. |

[/ QUOTE ] We usually play .10/.20 but I wanted guys to have the option to buy in to $25 and was thinking the .10/.25 would work with red/green chips. But it could end up with more red. I don't know. Kind of why I was wondering about this. The .25/.50 would be a bit much for these guys. I want to be able to play 2xs a month and it could end up costing $25 to $50 every time for guys. I like the idea of it costing a little less. It's more important to keep the game going and everybody having fun as it is to deal to much with chips. I just know you guys have all been throught the same thing. I really do appreciate the help. All my home game buddies think I'm some sort of super poker nerd (blinds on computer, sheets, chips and rules). I just know to come here and look. Thanks again. Any more thoughts would be appreciated. E |

Way way too many 5c chips. You figure they're most likely only going to be used by the small blind. 10 per player is probably plenty. Just encourage them to exchange for quarters when they don't fold. Other than that, it looks good.
Remember, active players don't make change. |

There's no reason you can't have a $25 max buy-in as follows: $.10 - 15 $.50 - 11 $1 - 8 $5 - 2 If you have a lot of white $1 chips, you could do away with the $5 chips. |

How about .25/.25 blinds. This works fine for my home games.

-I like the idea of the .25/.25 game...makes everything real simple. the multiples of the BB thing would be a non-issue because it is actually multiples of the SB too, and that is what every game plays off of.
-the .10/.20 game would work too, which I do when my brothers and I are playing smaller just goofing off. We do the division thing, where we divide the buyin by 10, then play with dollars instead of cents, but play with the denoms. Confused? Me too. Buy in for $20 for $200 worth of chips, then we play $1/2 blinds until cash out, where we divide by 10 for the cash. Might be harder for you since you have no $1 chips. Maybe use the $100 chips instead. -I think the .10/.25 is too complicated for live play...best left to the internet. |
