Is Kill Phil a good tournament book for people that don\'t suck?
Seems to be focused on beating the pros...or at least that's the vibe I get. I'm just wondering if it's worth reading if you're a good player of if it's only for amateurs.

[/ QUOTE ] It's a decent read with a decent system with tips. The strategy is similar to what Daneman(SP? runner up in 2005 Main Event WSOP) said he was doing. You can't outplay pros, so you put them to hard decisions for lots of chips that they don't want to be in. It's got several levels of strategy, expanding on it, and it's good to read. but if you're already doing well, it may be a better read so you know what to watch out for more than incorporating it. Still, some useful things in it, and it's written in a way that makes it easy to read which is always good. Also, if you have a friend that wants to learn to play tournaments, it's a great starting book for them. |

Kill Phil is ok and generally effective, BUT
I feel morally obligated to recommend Harrington's books first. |

Mason gave Kill Phil 10/10, that was enough for me to make a purchase.

You can also pick up Kill Everyone in a few months. That might be more what you're looking for.

Re: Is Kill Phil a good tournament book for people that don\'t suck?
Harrington on Hold-em is the material to master to understand how to beat the pros. Kill Phil is just an extended version of what Sklansky wrote about teaching a novice to play in tournaments. Any novice can learn much more by reading the Harrington series they just need to invest a little more time to understand Harringtons material and a little more money to purchase the books. I suppose after that Kill Phil might be worth looking at

Re: Is Kill Phil a good tournament book for people that don\'t suck?
I think the real issue is how you compare to your opposition. If you are trying to learn how to best win in your home game or in small stakes tournaments that don't attract good players, you are better off with Harrington. If you are working on your strategy for the WSOP and are thinking of trying to outplay Ivey or Cunningham, I'd suggest Kill Phil instead.
