Ok, so I have been evaluating my diet, and have decided I have one weakness in it.
I am hopelessly addicted to caffeine. Suprisingly, I hate coffee, so soda is my mistress of choice. This is really really bad for fat loss, in fact almost EVERY single nutrition regiment I have researched say to 'quit drinking soda' as one of the first, most basic steps to take. I really want to do this, but I'm looking for a caffeine source that is better for me than soda, and that is also not coffee. I'm even willing to take a straight up caffeine supplement in order to wean myself off of it. Any suggestions? |

I disagree with the diet soda suggestion (almost equally unhealthy, similar leptin and insulin response, and potential toxicity of artificial sweeteners.)
Anecdotally apples and yoghurt in the morning are supposed to be effective at keeping you awake. Replace diet soda with green tea. Also, you can get pure pharmaceutical grade caffeine if you require it. Make sure not to overdo that. It takes some days before your body gets used to the reduced caffeine, but it feels so much better once you're off. I went from around 600mg of caffeine a day, to nearly nothing. |

I agree that diet soda is not better, if anything it's far worse.
I will take you recommendations on green tea, I've never been much of a tea drinker, but I am willing to try almost anything. And I will look into a caffeine supplement. |

[/ QUOTE ] So basically, without going into great detail, is that your body reacts to diet soda as if it were regular soda? I've heard that the sweet taste of sugar-free products promote an insulin spiker as if it were sugary. |

Soda really doesn't have very much caffiene it when compared to energy drinks or coffee. I'm a big fan of Spike, but I think it's giving me an irregular heart beat. I'll get back to you on that... hopefully!
P.S. Spike and vodka - all aboard the travesty train. |

It kinda makes sense that tasting sweet could trigger a small insulin response. But then again, say you're on a really empty stomach and you chug a ton of diet soda. Are you going to go into hypoglycemic shock because you don't have any actual blood sugar for the insulin to work with? Seems hard to believe. Also, would this make adding a [censored] of splenda to your post workout shake a good idea to get a bigger insulin spike? I just drink coffee. |
