Trip home was good - I'll try E-boost tomorrow! Also, getting unstuck from the Mirage game was very good - made nice score after you left after the one seat's heater ended.

Chill - I am in a similar situation and I did the following to alleviative a little anxiety (not sure if it would actually help in a mugging situation, but it makes me feel better):

- I keep about 1/4 of the cash I take to the casino in a wallet (I recently purchased a chain wallet... harder to lose or misplace)

- Keep the remainder in a money clip or rubber band roll in your front pocket. I feel like if I got mugged they'd get my wallet and I'd be left with the lion's share of my cash.

Good luck to ya.

answer: get a license to carry. its less likely someone will [censored] with you if they can see the gun at your waist. and unless you're a felon, its not hard to get one. you're not a felon, are you?

Buy a 9mm and always have it in your right hand.

Problem solved.

The one seat was on a heater that was sick. I had the best seat in the house, if I could stay up longer and had the extra dime i would have remained - it was just a matter of time

Is this not a legitimate concern? I guess the ankle wallet is a thought, I have never even heard of that before though.

[/ QUOTE ]

Its not a legitimate concern because nobody else except for you knows you have a large sum of money on your body, unless you were followed from the poker room ala Greg Raymer. Grow a pair, and deal with it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Every card club in LA has the cashiers cage in a plain line of sight for people hanging around or playing in a nearby game (although the Commerce is a little better with dividers at the main cage in top section). A spotter inside the club can easily note about how much you cashed out and phone someone on the outside to do a follow home robbery.

The ankle wallet/money belt might work for the casual mugging. But I wouldn't want to tell a guy with a gun to my head in my driveway that "all I had" was the hundred bucks or so in my regular wallet thirty minutes after I cashed out 3K at a card club.

Best advice is to use the player's bank for most of your cash (at the OP's playing limit it's hard to get a box). Take some cash with you in case you run into a psycho robber (i.e., a robber who gets violent if he comes up empty).

Hi Rob,

I remember playing poker in 2002 at the Taj Mahal in AC and going to Pat's steaks at the corner of Artic and Pennslvania after a session. Anyone who has visited that area knows it does not seem to safe at that time.

I would usually go there with anywhere between $2000 and $4000. It never ocurred to me that I had that much money on me or someone would try to roll me for my roll.

If you do not feel comfortable with that much money, find out about getting a box as Jeffage suggested.

However I find this the real problem...

[ QUOTE ]
However, I am not wealthy and honestly barely get by in regular income compared with my expenses, and the buyin for the games I am playing now is a large amount of money to me, and not one I would be comfortable losing if I just outright lost it (not playing poker) or it was stolen.

I appreciate the suggestions, many of which do sound like they will be possibly useful to my situation, although some would not be feasible, like the casino box, as I play in a lot of different places.

To Mike and the earlier poster who thought I might be playing above my limit for my income and bankroll - if I lost all my current poker bankroll, either being robbed or to am extremely bad day at the tables, it would not affect my paying the bills or anything like that. I have income to pay my expenses, as well as having a few thousand dollars online spread around a few different sites.
This money is all winnings from my last 6 months of playing anywhere between 4/8 and 10/20.

When I say I would not be comfortable losing it, I mean that I would just feel sick to my stomach that I lost almost a month's pay for such for such a stupid reason (accidental loss or robbery). I don't feel I have any reason to step down in limits now, but if I did have a few really unlucky days at the table and lost a most of it I would probably step back down to 4/8 or so and be ok with that. If I was robbed or lost the same amount I'm afraid I would go on an "extended tilt" and might never be comfortable playing in a casino again, or would at least be even more nervous about it than I am now.

Difficulty of getting an LTC varies greatly by state. Also people should not be able to see that you're carrying. In many states that's illegal. I'm not sure what other casinos rules are, but I know it's illegal to carry on the tribal lands at Foxwoods.

Does anyone feel comfortable leaving several thousand dollars in a low rent motel room (one without a safe)?

If the hotel does not have a safe, you're better off taking it with you. And I've heard some stories about how unsafe those safes really are. In any event, I don't use them. Although I WILL use the lock boxes available in casinos. Those are safe.

[/ QUOTE ]

Anyone have any experiences around bad things happening with room safes in casinos? I havnet had any problems and currently have $3k in my front poket with $2k in the room safe and just contemplating if I should take it with me now...
