In the California city where my mom lives, anything a person puts out by the curb becomes city property, including recyclables like cans, bottles, etc. In fact, the person who put it there in the first place can get in trouble for "stealing" city property if they decide to take it back and get caught!

Last week-end our city had an official "Hidden Treasures Day" where everyone was encouraged to put stuff out on the curb with "free" signs. I was out of town camping for the week-end but I heard a lot of people did this. [/ QUOTE ] ???? |

Think I can get someone to take a leaking hot water tank? It's been sitting in my garage cause I haven't wanted to take it to the dump...
Think someone off craigslist would take it? It's FREE in the seattle area... any of you want it? |

If you really can't get anyone to take it, call your local recycling center and see if they know guys who take apart old appliances and bring them in to recycle. |
