Boris,

I don't know jacksh** about cameras really, but smaller form factor is pretty key imo. Also, video w/ voice is pretty critical for capturing police beatings, shootings, naked chick stuff, and all sorts of otehr stuff to either YouTube or sell to tabloid TV shows. Finally, the 6x one appears to be a year newer, so I'd just figure it's probably better.

I want a cheap camera that will get the job done. I don't care about any extra features at all, I just want something that can take the best pictures for the dollar. I don't need picture editing software or any of that crap.

My budget is about $200-$300 I guess.

Are there any good sites out there for me to start researching?

Go to Newegg.com.

Don't even bother with any other.

don't worry about megapixels, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between 5 and 7. 10x optical zoom is pretty prime though.

thanks, i was honestly surprised it was still available. both "narcissus" and "goldmund" were already taken.

www.dpreview.com is a pretty good review site with lots of extensive reviews of point and shoots.

IMHO, you definitely made the right call. For most uses, even some lower level photography, people underestimate how much size is a factor. Its not just a cool thing, you'll take more pictures if its not a bitch to carry.

As for zoom, camera shake becomes a factor at about 5x and out, even with image stabilzaton. As stated before, at 7 megapixels you can crop and expand the picture and still have it look great. Basically high zoom+ more megapixels= mega zoom+less megapixels.

Also there is a strong chance you'll use the video more than you think. Especiall when you're drunk.

QFMFT! Unfortunately I needed a camera right now. Newegg would have saved me $60.

I have almost the exact camera you purchased except mine has no voice. Video is pretty worthless without voice. Thinking of selling it for that reason.

This is a highly cropped 6mp picture that I've printed 5"x10" panoramic with no problem, it looks great. I've printed 6mp pictures 10"x14" and you can't see the pixels. The difference between 5 and 7 megapixels is only going to matter if you blow up your prints really huge. More importantly would be how fast the camera is, point and shoots often miss pictures because there is so much lag time between pressing the button and the image being captured.
