fwiw Victoria Beckham said she's looking forward to the move to LA because "over there people put you on a pedestal", apparently Spanish/UK people aren't fawningly sycophantic enough for these morons.

And yes, MLS sucks balls and no one man can improve that.

i'm gonna go against the grain. i think he and posh are going to start popping up in movies and just generalyl be a part of the US Celebrity culture. that's the entire reason they moved to LA and i'm sure they have great publicists. their entire goal is to be super famous and i'd be willing to bet that they will be.

hell, it's already starting. for those that aren't aware, a spice girls reunion tour was announced today.

The whole thing is a much better deal for the Beckhams than it is for MLS.

As you may already know, David Beckham is going to be playing his soccer in LA, starting in a few weeks time. I'm interested in whether this has recieved much media coverage in the US, and whether american OOTers are interested in the move.

[/ QUOTE ]

When Beckham first signed, there was some minor coverage.

I don't know anyone who watches MLS. It is definitely a very low tier sport in the US.

If you brought to the US all the great soccer teams from around the world, I doubt many Americans would watch. Soccer is considered way too slow and 'weak' of a game here, especially compared to basketball and football. This is also one of the reasons baseball has dropped in popularity over the last couple decades.

The reason some Americans watch soccer during the World Cup is the same reason we watch track and field events during the Olympics... U S A... U S A... U S A. Few care about the 100 meter dash if there isn't national pride involved.

As Mason said, they probably have great publicists and will become a celebrity power couple in the US. Nobody will care about the MLS still.

I was at the gym and saw Beckham/Posh on Entertainment Tonight. It was definetely about some story that no one would give a [censored] about but through connections/publicists would get on a show like that.

since moving outside of the usa, soccor has become my favorite sport. i dont MLS, only european games so i dont know if those guys suck or not.

soccor is like watching chess. everytime someone gets a chance to shoot its a potential game winning shot, which is exciting.

There was a fair amount of coverage in the LA Times when he first signed. I think I remember reading something along the lines of 7,000 season tickets being sold within 24 hours of the news, so there is some interest. Most of the coverage was in the entertainment section rather than sports, though.

Is that why the World Cup Final pulled in great ratings? Because the US was playing in it?
