Re: Car under $25,000 (and request for general new car buying advice)
Haven't seen it posted yet, so I'll recommend a Mitsubishi Galant ES/SE. It's a Japanese car that's just as well-built as a Camry/Accord, but is a little cheaper for the same amount of extras. I've been in the market the past couple months and have noticed reviews for the new Camry's aren't that great.

It is very hard to compete with a hybrid Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Not many flaws with the car.
Since I am Honda owner, I am all for the Accord |

Re: Car under $25,000 (and request for general new car buying advice)
As others have said the Mazdaspeed 3 is awesome value for money. I bought one in March and I have enjoyed my commute ever since.
It has the space to go on a large shopping trip to Ikea or Home Depot and it will out perform any new car on the road that costs less than $35,000. It's comfortable and well equipped, admittedly gas mileage isn't great but thats because I can't help keeping my foot off the gas when I feel the turbo spool! I have had no problems with it and would definitely recommend it to anyone if you can find one. They are in short supply but most dealers will be able to get one for you if you don't want it built to spec. |

Re: Car under $25,000 (and request for general new car buying advice)
IMO the gap in quality between domestics and the asian cars is more or less in the past, but these kinds of ideas tend to live on in people's memories for a long time. You'll still get a slightly better price on the foreign cars. Personally I will spend another $5-$10 dollars a month or whatever to go American.
I always buy cars that are "almost new", there are a lot of deals to be had if you look. My G6 Convertible had 3000 miles on it and I saved five grand over buying one brand new. Whatever you do, stay away from the Corolla any 4-cylinder for that matter. We had the Corolla as the company car at my law firm for a while (can you imagine?) and no one who drove it would take it out a second time. |

While mitsubishi's are usually quite fun to drive, their reliability is lacking. They placed near the bottom of a reliability survey I recently read. In addition, big companies like CarMax have actually talked about discontinuing selling them because the warranty policies are paying out so much in repairing them. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Don't buy a new car. [/ QUOTE ] QFT [/ QUOTE ] indeed - new cars are a waste. [/ QUOTE ] Actually it depends. If your going to pay cash for it then yes a new car is a waste. But if your going to finance the car and can get a 1-2% interest rate for a new car it works out about the same. Then you have a new car with full warranty instead of a used car that could have lots of problems you get to find out about. |
