Default Dell Monitors keeps turning itself off

So the other day, my monitor's screen would randomly go black. It is a flat screen LCD from Dell, 17". When the screen goes black, the green button stays on. So I would turn off the green button, turn it back on, and the screen would show for like 3 seconds and then go black again.

Anyone have any similar experiences or fixes?

While the screen is "off", does the Menu button still bring up the menu? If you switch monitors with a friend, who keeps the problem?

My girlfriend had/has this problem with her monitor as well. She would have to play with the wire in the back of the monitor and it would come back on. Not sure what caused this though.

No, the menu button does not work. If I unplug it from the computer even, and plug it into a separate outlet, when I turn the monitor on, the "test" box comes on in the corner and starts moving and then the screen goes black again.
