Default reading books makes me wanna play less.

dunno what to do to fix it. i just tried playing, but watching a guy call 2 all in raises with J8 and winning, watching the same guy bet/raise all the way with 23o and hitting a river 2 pair, the play is atrocious, and im convinced that i make more against good players then bad. ive kept up with it. full of truth.

anyway, how do i get myself to play more.

The answer is to move up. At 10/20 you will make more money because the players are better.

honestly that may be the worst advice possible- not to mention completly untrue.
Learn how to beat the lower limits before playing the higher limits.
The more mistakes your opponents make the higher your EV at the table, short run varriance is difficult to deal with while you are relatively new to the game, but it becomes much easier with time.
Also make sure that you know for certain that what looks like bad play is bad play. Loose calls in NL are often profitable by a good player. Telling the difference between a good player making loose calls and loose raises and a fish doing the same is very difficult.
Think: gus hansen / daniel negreanu/ phil ivy

You need to read TOP a little more carefully, I can respect different opinions, If you don't think it is the greatest book ever then so be it. But to say you didn't get much out of it suggests to me that you aren't considering the topics at a very deep level. Try to read one section per day and think about how it applies to the games you are playing, I garauntee you will benefit. Also I believe deacsoft will be starting a study group for TOP after the SSHE one is finished, I would recommend getting involved in that as well.

Haven't you got to the part in the books that tell you where the money comes from in this game?

You make more off good players...and lose a lot to the fish...but presumably lose to better players than yourself. So, the only segment of the poker population that you do well off of is the one comprised of players better than fish, but worse than you? Good luck winning money.

Funny, I dont get much out of TOP either. It just seems obvious and mechanical, although some sections are quite helpful.. eg. I never considered rasiing with second best hand would increase your chance of winning by getting people to fold, quite a subtle concept.
