what to do with 20-30k €?!
This is my first post here, sorry if im asking dump questions...
I want to invest some part of my money, probably around 20-30k Euro, longterm for maybe 5 to XX years. My knowledge is very limited in this area and i hope you can give me some general guidelines. By the way im from germany and the best way for me to invest this money at the moment, is at a fixed bankacccount for 4,5% per year, but thats probably not the best way to handle this. I have no problem with moderate/semi-high risks or swings, if the there is a good +EV. |

70/30 stocks bonds.
By stocks I mean an index. By bonds I mean earn more than that 4.5% on some sort of fixed income. |

[/ QUOTE ] Good idea......but prefer my mode........... 50% in a 5.25% COUNTRYWIDE SAVINGS ACCOUNT 50% divided between FIVE stocks in FIVE different sectors with at least ONE of them paying a 2.6% dividend and preferably the others with some type of dividend. Right now this is a scary time for the market in my opinion and it would not surprise me to see the market go flat or lower from here to the remainder of the year........but with solid stocks in different sectors one should be fine and the dividends will be all gravy..........and then of course one has the 5.25% they are getting in the savings. -FH- |

Index funds as long as you do not need to have a certain amount at the end of 5-XX years. If you do then stick with Bonds/Savings accounts.

To many on this board are in love with Index funds..........if you have time to study the market for yourself, index funds would be my last resort.

if you have time to study the market for yourself [/ QUOTE ] I think the best assumption is that the above is not the case. The OP also did not mention risk (both variance and downside tolerance), so it is probably best that he not buy 5 individual stocks, which has higher risk than index funds. Explain why someone who knows nothing about investing (let alone valuation) should invest in inidividual stocks? Bah, I shouldn't even bother. |
