Re: There is a God.

To me, it's not because he's autistic. Hell, when I saw it the first time I missed the entire beginning where they said that. Anytime you see a scrawny kid, who looks like he shouldn't even be out on the court, channeling Larry Bird and having his classmates rush the court, it gets to you. The coach was crying and the students were going crazy; even without the autistic angle, this kid got to live his dream for like five minutes. It's [censored] Rudy. Working your ass off hauling water for the team and for one brief moment - you are a champion. |

I think Paul Westphal was coaching the other team. Where is the defense? This would not be allowed to happen on any team that I coached (unless there was some prearranged agreement with the other team to let the kid take shots without a hand in his face). [/ QUOTE ] you prob thought kobe's 81 was meaningless too... |

Re: There is a God.
No, Kobe's 81 was legit. I think this was a sham, though. When I was in high school, we had a very similar situation on my football team. They let the autistic kid on the team (who always wore a red jersey in practice, and never ever got hit) play quarterback for a series, and the head coaches called time out to discuss the other team not hitting him. I think something similar happened here.

OK, just watched this again. Definitely something arranged, and I'd be kinda embarassed to be on the other team. I'm happy for the kid, though.

Good thing the other coach wasn't this guy.

Heck, or even this guy... [/ QUOTE ] Coach Finstock: There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese |

Re: There is a God.
Except for the autistic facial structure, this kid seemed totally normal to me. Maybe he is different in other situations or whatever, but he isn't really like any of the other autistic kids i've seen. Are there varying degrees of it or something?

Re: There is a God.
OK, I've heard about it all week, too, and this clip was my first exposure to the story. All I can say is:
That kid is about as autistic as I am. If "Rain Man" was "highly functional", then this kid is Einstein. Sorry, I was expecting at least Rain Man, if not that autistic kid from "The White Shadow" that Coach put in at the end of a game. |
